Wong Joon Tai, Executive Advisor

Wong brings with him more than 20 years of track record in the IT arena. Wong began his career at the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE) where he set up the first end-user computing centre in the Singapore civil service, as well as the Micro-computer unit to promote the use of PCs and LAN. As MOE's Information System Manager, Wong was responsible for spearheading the "smart" school idea, and initiated a massive school infrastructure project to equip all the schools in Singapore with LANs. As a result of his efforts, MOE's IT Department became the first IT organization in the civil service to be awarded the ISO9001 certification in August 1992.

From Sept 1995 to Sept 2000, as Director of Infrastructure and Technology at the then National Computer Board and subsequently the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, Wong was actively involved in building the Singapore Government Information Infrastructure, including the civil service wide electronic mailing system, the Government Internet, Intranet and Broadband infrastructure.

He was also selected to lead a team of staff from various organizations to deploy the NTUC Link smart cards, the first multi-function smart card implemented in Singapore, to more than 500,000 NTUC union members and members of NTUC co-operatives.

In 1999, when the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) was formed, Wong was given additional responsibility as Director of Technology Exploitation. In this role, he led a team of officers to exploit information infrastructure, network & communications and e-commerce technologies in areas such as data/voice integration, voice over IP, wireless network, Wireless Application Protocol (WAP), multimedia, and broadband technologies. Wong was also Chairman of the National Information Infrastructure Technical Committee, and provided technical support to major government initiatives such as Singapore One.
